PLEASE NOTE that this book was written at time when offensive racial language was commonplace and social accepted.  The author himself, a white male, writing about Voodoo speaks of the state in which this book was born.  We would strongly suggest that this book be considered an historical document from a cultural perspective, speaking about difference.  The content of the book will be found to be highly offensive to a reader in the 21st century.

The book is a white male’s attempt to write about the history and practice of Voodoo in New Orleans up to the early 1940s. Marie Laveau, ‘witch doctors’, and sacrifices constitute this particular volume.

Of potential interest is the previous owner’s bookplate.  ‘Ruth Gentry Talley’ was one of the first female lawyers in Louisiana.
