The 1939 translation by A. R. Allinson of the French historian Jules Michelet’s 1862 work on witches and witch-trials. While largely inaccurate it is notable for its compassionate stance on witchcraft. It later inspired the wonderfully psychedelic ‘Kanashimi no Belladonna’ (Belladonna of Sadness) of 1973. £125.
